Pure Perfection catering is the exclusive catering provider for Oatlands Historic House and Gardens in Leesburg, Virginia. Paige had the opportunity to interview Executive Chef and Owner, Matt Warschaw, on his culinary and career background as well as his company.
- How many years have you been in business (Pure Perfection)?
Answer: “We formed the company initially in 2013 and officially began public operations in 2015.”
- What made you want to start a catering company?
Answer: “While I was working for Hyatt, my work partner at the time was already doing corporate catering. He suggested that whenever I was ready to leave Hyatt, the catering industry would be ready for me. We then rented out a commercial kitchen space and founded the company one and a half years later.”
- Can you walk me through your career/ technical history?
Answer: “I started working in restaurants around age 12 or 13. Worked through high school and then went to culinary school, apprenticed under a chef in Beverly Hills, and studied abroad. After that, I started at the Ritz-Carlton, then ended up at the Hyatt, and then Pure Perfection. My career has allowed me to work in many different states, overseas, and various atmospheres such as theme parks, corporate events, weddings, and more.
- What is your favorite part of the job?
Answer: “My favorite part of the job is seeing the joy that our work gives people. No matter the event, our work allows our clients time to be social, relax, and just enjoy time together; enjoy our service. It’s nice to know we helped that event be possible.
- What is the most challenging part of the job?
Answer: “The limitations you face, what you are able to do. We can only do so much when it comes to how many charities we help or when a client has a specific budget. This is more of an internal conflict than an external one. The idea of “Oh, I wish I could have” but, we can only do so much.”
- What is Pure Perfection’s motto?
Answer: “We have two mottos; an event without food is just a meeting and It’s all in our name (Pure Perfection)- what you should expect and what we like to deliver”.
