Summer is one of the most popular seasons of the year to get married. The weather makes everyone and everything happier and warmer. However, these summertime soirees and sunset vows come with great levels of heat and humidity, especially in the DC area! Luckily, we have crafted some summer wedding tips to keep your guests happy and your wedding day perfect.
A Venue for Everyone
When choosing a venue, it’s important to accommodate all of your guests. If you are choosing an outdoor, make sure it also has some indoor shelter as well. You’ll want to provide a cooler environment for guests if they need it. Additionally, if it rains, you have the perfect rain plan to shift indoors!
Staying Cool Outdoors
Some ways to have the outdoor event your dream of, but ensuring everyone is comfortable include: AC units for a tent, choosing a venue that has a lot of shade, and keeping the ceremony short if it’s in the sun. It’s also important to serve lots of water with ice and pretty garnishes to your guests. Cooling fruits, such as watermelon, cucumber, or strawberries can be served in drinks of any kind or even on the side!
Timing is Everything
When planning your special day, make sure to avoid spending the hottest part of the summer day in the sun, which is around 3:00 to 6:00 p.m. If you want beautiful and warm pictures, utilize the summer golden hour: an hour or two before sunset.
Flowers
Make sure your selection of flowers is in line with the summer season. Some popular summer flowers include lavender, roses, Queen Anee’s Lace, snapdragons, sunflowers, and zinnia. Additionally, be mindful of the time you place the flowers on tables and how you care for them in the summer heat.
Fabulous Favors
Providing cooling gadgets and heat protectant items for your guests make for a perfect favor for a summertime wedding. These sleek handheld battery run fan come in black, white, or pink. Alternatively, these wooden hand fans have a timeless look. Either of these options are perfect for the heat and maybe even your guests’ makeup!
Providing a small bottle of sunscreen would be helpful for the sun. Consider personalized sunglasses that match the theme of your wedding, or maybe even your guests’ name or initials. To display these favors, place baskets full of these gifts or individually wrapped packages for each guest near the ceremony location or even on seats if needed for the ceremony. Alternatively, they can be placed at their seats for the reception, but you’ll want to make sure the items are accessible to use!
