When we say Carla and Erik’s Magical Wedding at Shadow Creek in September was magical, we mean it! Everything from the amazing venue, to the committed and helpful venue staff and vendor team, to the wedding details, and finally to the beautiful and gracious couple were perfect, which led to a beautiful and truly memorable day.

Carla and Erik had a traditional American wedding, with Filipino wedding customs woven throughout the ceremony. This was reflected in their entire wedding party totaling around 30 people! This included bridesmaids, groomsmen, godparents, veil sponsors readers, ring and coin bearers, and more!

The Details

For as much as Carla (and Erik) claimed they weren’t planners and had almost no idea what they were doing for their wedding day, they could have fooled the H&L team. The design and vision Carla envisioned and executed were picture perfect. We are firm believers that details matter, and this wedding is a shining example of why.

True story, one of the main reasons Maya and Carla hit it off instantly was because of their shared love for the Disney movie, Cool Runnings.

The Ceremony

It’s always a joy to witness a fusion wedding that joins and brings two cultures together with their families. However the thing that we will always remember about this wedding ceremony is what happened just before show time.

One of the reasons couples choose to get married at Shadow Creek is because of their stunning outdoor patio where 95% of wedding ceremonies happen.

The weather forecast began showing signs of potential isolated thunder and wind storms the night before. Because initial reports were showing these thunderstorms happening right after the ceremony and during cocktail hour (still outside, but under a covered space), we kept with the original plan of keeping the ceremony outside.

An hour before the ceremony start time, things took a turn for the worse. All the trees surrounding the venue started slanting to the left, a tell-tell sign that a thunderstorm was imminent. We determined that the thunderstorm was only supposed to last 15 minutes.

Within seconds, without so much as a word to each other, the entire venue and catering team, the florist, and the H&L team rushed to the ceremony space, took off all the cushions on the chairs, brought in all of the ceremony decor, and watched as rain poured and poured outside. Once the rain stopped, everyone on the vendor side rushed back outside, dried off all the chairs and placed the cushions back on them, used leaf blowers to soak up the water, and then swept up the leaves, set up all the ceremony decor, all in time to start the ceremony ON TIME. And of course the weather was simply gorgeous for the rest of the day.
